High School
As children transition to adulthood, it becomes increasingly important to remember our pledge to them at Baptism, to "love, support, and care" for them as they grow up. High School is a difficult time for all young adults, as they learn lessons in maturity, social interaction, love, and peer pressure. Keeping young adults engaged, providing an opposing view to popular culture, and strengthening their understanding of Christian principles, is the focus of our High School Christian Education program. Opportunities for High School youth include:
- A one year confirmation program meeting on Sunday evenings, from October of their Freshman year, until thier confirmation in October of their sophomore year, at which time they become full members of the congregation.
- High school discussion group, which meets monthly to discuss issues of faith as they relate to home, school, and the world.
- A yearly High School Mission Trip to help others living in poverty or injustice across our nation.
- OWL (Our Whole Lives) , a faith-based sexuality education program; offered every other year for 10th-12th graders.
- Service on boards, committees, in Sunday School classes, and in the community.
The High School Mission Trip is a powerful, Christian way in which young adults see the injustice of the world around them firsthand, and bond with each other during the eight day trip. In addition, youth are required to raise the funds to go on the trip, learning responsibility and planning, along with a lot of fun group activities. Previous trips have included:
- 2006 – Duvall Home, Florida
- 2007 – San Antonio
- June 2008 – Chicago
- July 2008 – Biloxi, Mississippi
